Some extremely odd things happening even on the web interface. Bets not displaying being the main issue. Betfair should take the site back down I reckon.

I think its appalling that they are allowing their API to remain up in such a state.

Yeah, I put a bet up via BA that should have been matched according to the grid but wasn't. Cancelled it (I think !!) and closed down for the day.

Same here. A lot of 'bet in progress' errors and flashing P&L's. I was quiet happy that the API was running so smooth for almost a year. Hope this is temporary!

struggle

I tried to stay with the scalping for a couple more races and gained a little but then decided it was a nightmare and gave in.
Hope Betfair are more gentle on us tomorrow. :(

Ladder Crazy !

Postby samclements74 » Mon Jan 31, 2011 9:32 pm

i had a stroke of luck, but near zero help from BF helpdesk....

First I laid Restless bay for £5 at 14.5 in the 2.40 at Wolv for a pre-race trade,.. watched the price rise four ticks then went to hedge with a back bet,. which it took,.. then untook, then took, then untook,... the P&L column flashing green to red like a disco strobe .I couldn't cancel the bet at all, it just kept flickering on and off while the price dropped down to 8,....

I was onto the BF helpdesk pretty fast,.. explained I was using Gruss BA, and asked if there were any problems,...? matey said there HAD BEEN a planned outage earlier but that was complete and no other ongoing problems. Just to empty browser cache and reboot my PC.

He said nothing about Betfair's notice that API software was down.

He also failed to close my trade at the outset, as I'd asked him to...

My luck came when Restless Bay got backed out of the gate and didn't run, saving me a loss of £65 if it had come in as the longshot RacingPost tip for today !

Amazing how quickly I lost all trust in the software / API. WIll definitely wait a while until all clear is tried n tested.

"Betfair Website unavailable on Monday 31st January"

In future cases like this, can BA send an email to all subscribers?
I no longer logon to Betfair, and there was no announcement on BA Homepage, so never knew about this until after the maelstrom. Yes, i lost money.

With foreknowledge I could have traded on Betfair manually bypassing the troubled API.

Anything else you'd like ? Perhaps they should email you when its raining outside just in case you leave the house without an umbrella.

If your registered with Betfair, you would have got an email last week directly from them about the upgrade. To be fair, BF like most of us probably didn't know about the API prob till after they were emailed by which time you probably noticed your money disappearing.

Best to be cautious when BF do maintenance or "upgrades".

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
