Coding for 'Chasing' loses.

Postby thunderfoot » Mon Aug 04, 2008 3:34 pm

I currently use 5 different scenarios to fire-in bets using EXCEL Formula, and none of these rely on knowing the result of the last race

However, been looking at setting-up a 'Chasing loses' scenario, the stakes being based on "I want to win 'x' pounds + losing stakes".

For example if in Race 1 my selection is at odds of 5.00 and I want to win £4.00 then the stake will be £1 (ignoring BF Commission charges). If that selection wins then I start again on the next race. If it loses, then on the next race, if the odds are the same, the stake will be £1.25 to (hopefully) win my £4.00 plus the £1 stake from the previous race.

Has anyone got some coding I can 'jiggery-pokery' about with to get this betting scenario to work. Thinking along the lines of using the BF Bank display, but with 5 other scenarios running at the same time could expect some bets being missed or placed when they shouldn't have been!!

I wrote an Excel SS to do just what you said. It calculates your position using the "logged results" sheet. The problem is that the "results" come in even later than the updated bank balance. I think perhaps they wait for "correct weight" before sending official results.

Another way is to tell your SS how much you have started with and have it constantly compare the actual balance with that. It's still delayed, and I find that when races are 10 mins apart it runs one result behind. (which is sometimes fortunate and sometimes frustrating.)

I have looked at the suggestion of another member who mentioned that instant results can be seen by looking at the "zero' ed odds for the "inplay" winner. Because "Lady Luck" plays some part in my betting strategy I am currently sticking with the Bank Balance method mentioned above. :)

he bank balance is the best option but if there are a lot of races or a delay you would run in to problems.

Have you tested your idea with level stakes first, if it can't win at level stakes then loss chasing will fail aswell, don't forget the basic rule.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
