Statistics v Knowledge

Postby thunderfoot » Tue Aug 05, 2008 12:44 pm

Is it really possible to have a successful betting system based on Statistics compared to a system where 'Knowledge' is the driver?

Hmm

Im guessing that the lack of answers here tells a story!!

I for one will stick my neck out and say yes.

This is based purely on my betting a statistical laying system since feb 08 and finding so far it has worked.

Just to really stir the honey pot my statistical system goes against the generally accepted saying that 'The odds imediately preceding a race are the true odds of a horse winning.'

The downside is it only makes beer money and its a rollercoaster high ups and low downs!! Its worst enemy is human intervention (me  )

I am absolutely convinced with a couple of hours to add a further filter or two it would be quite successful and produce much more than beer money, one day I'll get round to it!

Thunderfoot : are you refering to the 2 different forms of anylsis say from:-

(1) "fundamental" data, ie, "form" data , or, jockey / poney / trainers configurations as a 2nd method

(2) "technical" - which is purely numbers driven ? ie chartist anylsis, trading, greenups , etc

(3) "Hybrid" - someone else does the "form" calcs !

ok - thats 3 , thats a bit of a rough and ready -

Anyway - I'm a (2) 8) wouldn't think so though - would you - since i cant count !

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
