Bet Angel

Postby Powerstretch2 » Wed Nov 05, 2025 1:37 pm

Good morning everyone!

I would be interested in thought's on the following, especially of course those of Gary and Mark.

So, I first discovered the joy and pain of betfair.com in June 2007, the joy of Betting Assistant came about a year later. Then on discovering that the BA interface could be connected to an Excel spreadsheet, well that was it, I've been totally hooked from that day to the present!

During this time it has been difficult to ignore the rise of Peter Webb and Bet Angel, mainly because of his prolific use of YouTube and have often wondered how Bet Angel compared. So, on discovering that there was a free trial available last week, decided to give it a go and see what all the fuss was about.

Now, I don't now how many others of you have done the same, but in my own personnal experience, after 17 years on Betting Assistant, it was, 1. It's incredibly complicated to use, I've had to refer to Peter's YouTube video's many times to find out how to do even the most simplest of tasks, tasks which would have been fairly obvious on BA (maybe this is why he has made so many videos) and 2. it's not very pleasing to the eye, a smal issue you may rightly say, but after 17 years of BA, I now fully appreciate the beauty of the interface that Gary and Mark have created!

So, let me get to the point of writing. The free trial ends today and I'm sticking with Betting Assistant. But, I am going to miss a couple of Bet Angel features which did really impress me and wonder therefore, if there is any possibility of having them looked into as future developments, please?

Firstly, the sliding Profit/Loss scale feature, located on the far left of the Ladder markets.

Secondly, the position in queue feature, located on the far right of the Ladder and I'm fully aware that this is a contraversial subject and many say that it can't be done, especially after BF introduced Cross Matching. I've even seen historical comments on the Bet Angel Forem, with some of the big Whales, shooting down Minnows like me, saying it can't be done!! And yet 2025 and there it is and after a week of playing with it, have found it to be fairly accurate, even in practice mode!

Which brings me to me third and final point, practice mode! I have no idea how they do it, but it works incredibly well and would have easily have saved me a couple of thousand pounds over the years if available on BA!!

In summation, I've no idea if any of the above is do-able, as I have said, I'm sticking with Gary and Mark, for the simplistic beauty of their interface. But also, I for one would be very happy to pay twice the current subscription fee to have any, or all the above at some point!

Anyone else??

Thanks for the kind comments.

1) "Firstly, the sliding Profit/Loss scale feature, located on the far left of the Ladder markets."
Can you elaborate on this? I am not sure what it is.

2) I will take another look at position in queue when I get the chance. All I need is a reasonable algorithm that can infer the position.

3) We don't have any immediate plans on adding a practice mode. I recommend using the market replay feature with which you can practice on historical markets.

Good morning Gary,

Thank you for your time replying.

Regards point 2. (Position in Queue) great, I know this would really enhance my trading experience, if fairly accurate and to Bet Angel's credit after my weeks trial it did appear to be.

I'll look into your comments regards point 3. (Practice Mode). Also, as mentioned, I would estimate that I have easily blown a couple of grand testing out theories over the years!

Finally, but not so important point 1., there is a sliding Profit/Loss scale on the left of the ladders. When your bet is taken this suddenly jumps into action with a sliding scale (green and red), depending on whether a Back or Lay has been placed, it will either move up or down with the current price, showing your current green/red cash out position. However, I found it most valuable looking up and down the scale and being able to see (without having to work it out) the value of cashing out at certain prices, based on my current situation. You can also place a bet using this feature.

Also, as mentioned again, I would be happy to pay extra for any or above!

Apart from that congrats again on a beautiful, easy to use interface!

That sounds like the level profit column which has been included for a long time. Here is a screenshot. Is it this or something similar?

Hi again Gary,

Yes, I used it quite often, it was visually very useful for giving me an idea what the profit would be at 3/4 etc, ticks down, or worse case scenario, the loss at 3/4 etc, ticks up, without having to work it out. A bet can also be placed at any point on this sliding scale, allowing you to place known Stop Losses.

Be great to have a visually improved 'Gary' version of this, along with the place in queue feature! :D

The screenshot is from Betting Assistant. You can enable the column in Options|Preferences|Ladder from the main menu.

OK, thanks for bringing this to my attention Gary, 17 years on Betting Assistant and I had no idea this feature was available!

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
