Just to clarify, changing the odds, but not the stake changes the bet reference. This is counted as a transaction.

Doh! Of course! So the only immune things are canceling and reducing stakes - rats that scuppers my brilliant idea for reusing bets you want to cancel by moving them to 1.01 / 1000 until you need them again - oh well...

Quite surprised to receive an email from Betfair saying that I had incurred a charge for yesterday, I had two tabs open with both with a 2 second refresh and the throttle ticked and set at 20 in preferences. Should this produce a charge if I don't have any commission to offset ?

With the throttle set you should never incur a charge. We did tests in conjunction with Betfair before the charge was officially introduced. In any case 2 tabs with a 2 second refresh each is nowhere near enough to exceed 20 per second, it's only 2 requests per second.

Are you absolutely sure you weren't running something also connected to Betfair? I think you should contact datausage@betfair.com for a breakdown.

Thanks for the reply, Gary. As far as I know, I didn't do anything different to what I have done every day for the past few months. BA is the only API application I have on the PC I am currently using. I have already emailed the data usage team for the details but it doesn't look as if I'll get a reply until Monday.

Have now received the data from Betfair and it seems as if the charge relates to my use of Betfair Lite via some web queries rather than BA. Up to last week you didn't need to sign on to get the market info on Lite.

I'd forgotten that I used the web queries during the morning when I replied to you on Friday  Won't be using them again although Befair have waived the charge.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
