:( has anyone else got this email? does this mean even greening up at stakes under £2 would result in banning? i'm really gutted about this.

I haven't. Have you been placing many bets below minimum? I thought they tolerated the odd bet for greening up purposes. I shall ask the API team on Monday about this, if they are getting stricter they may ask me to remove the functionality from the program. :(

I think it may be possibly to do with a blog where someone was claiming to make £100+ per day placing 1000's of 1p bets and was getting either getting free bets and/or no commission. They claimed to have people in India opening accounts and doing all the work. Can't find the link now, I'll post it if I can find it.

Have you been placing bets below the minimum in Exchange Games?

I remember reading a while back people receiving the same email because they were backing below the minimum in exchange games.

I would be very surprised if they take a similar stance in all markets.

This is riskier than just being able to enter the below minimum stakes, but you could enter your bet for £2.30 at whatever odds you want then submit a lay bet for £2.00 at the same odds.

Do you do any betting above minimum stakes, with the 30p bets just to even things up (in which case I'm surprised they mind) or is all your betting at 30p stakes (in which case they might!) ??

good news :D

Further to our earlier email, we have had feedback around your query as follows:

Betfair's terms and conditions prohibit the placement of bets below the minimum stake of £2. We are aware that some customers use software that circumvents the minimum stake restriction, and we have automated procedures that identify accounts looking to disadvantage or inconvenience other customers by matching an excessive number of small bets.

As part of that process your account was flagged and a warning was sent to you. On reviewing the activity on your account it is apparent that your account was flagged in error. We are happy to accept that the bets you have placed that are less than the limit were not placed in bad faith, and that your intention was not to disadvantage or inconvenience any other Betfair customers..

Please be assured that your account will not be closed just for placing the occasional small bet, but we are sure you'll understand why we need to take a firm stance over the small minority of customers who do place an excessive number of small bets. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused you. Please do not hesitate to contact the helpdesk info@betfair.com if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,

BDP Support

I've had a reply from Betfair along similar lines. Don't abuse the privilege and you will be ok.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
