Balance Tracking

Postby dukecrocus » Mon Aug 25, 2008 7:13 am

Anyone got any VBA code that takes a snapshot of the balance when a race changes and creates an incremented list in Excell of a running balance.

Thanks in advance to all you VBA nuts.

I was going to use the results page but if 2 markets are close to each other this could cause a problem.

Balance Tracking

As is often the case with forum discussions, I managed to work it out myself. I now have a nice running balance which updates each time a new race starts. I use it to tell my system (just before it makes another bet) if the last bet was a win or a loss. Useful if you are trying to "pump" the balance back up !

Unfortunately, it is not necessarily going to tell you the result of the last race, only the change in your balance. This reflects the bets in the race (or races) that have been settled by BF since BA last looked.

Balance TRacking

Yes Roger you are right. For my puposes it will probably do. Since "Lady Luck" plays a part in my strategy. Sometimes frustrating and sometimes beneficial.
Maybe I will write the code that uses the "zeroed" odds of the "in-play" winner to extract the winner that has been suggested by another BA user. Photo finishes will be a problem but then they always are.

Duke, I haven't written my code for dealing with this yet, but I've used BF manually a lot, and I can't say I have a lot of confidence in that method where you look at the odds at the end of the race - I've quite often not known which horse won from staring at a BF screen as the market was suspended.

I think the surest way, and probably as quick a method as the balance method, is to get the results from the log result sheet. In VBA, it should be straightforward to tie up the bet references issued when the bets are made with those in the results log. Something that I could never do in formulas.

The next job is to make a staking plan that can work with delayed results - I have a friend working on that...

Roger,
I found the log results came in much to slow for my purposes.

A staking plan that uses delayed results you say! ... that thought prompted an interesting idea....
When you think about it, providing you don't have to be in every race, and why would you need to ? then there need be no delay. Bet on every second race for instance, or races that are at least 10 mins. apart.
What does it matter ? its just another race, then all balance updates will be current !

Duke, I believe you can update the log results using cell Q2 now, so that would be as quick as the balance, I think.

Sometimes a system has to bet on races close together, or even on every race, and I have toyed with ideas like breaking up the flow of races into separate streams, and using a staking plan on each stream. But that doesn't really work - chance can put all the failures in one stream, LOL.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
