Betfair Race Times grrrrr

Postby Shaun » Thu Nov 05, 2015 4:51 am

Why after all this time betfair are still unable to account for race delays and start time adjustments, it is just pure incompetents, there are any number of places they can obtain accurate times but fail to pass that on to the API, so once again instead of an automated betting platform i am chasing my tail.

Pity they're only doing it for the UK and Irish races as they're usually more reliable certainly compared to the US times which are a shambles. I'd guess they're just using the details they collect for timeform as they own that too so no biggy for them. Still it's better than nothing and should certainly be useful if the data is reliable.

Pity also not for Australian races, these are normally very accurate starting with in a minute after advertised race start time, except in the case of delays, depending on the time delay they will try to catch up, today due to adverse weather they had 2 separate delays for for 2 meetings, what i did notice at one point was the clock was accurate but the picklist was incorrect, it screws the whole meeting up if i don't account for it, i suppose i could test for market percentage before placing the bet.

Do you know what meetings they were? I did notice my Aus bots only made a third of what they normally do but put it down to one of those things as the wins were lower than usualrather than erratic wins/losses.

Pakenham and Flemington. both Victorian tracks, they had some freakish weather hit early in the day, i think both meeting put races back a meeting for awhile, by the end i think they had caught up.

Hi Mark
Just bumping this thread as I would find the new Betfair race status very useful. I use Excel so having the race status in one of the cells at the top of the page would be brilliant, perhaps F3 for the race status under F2 for the market status. Can you give us some idea of when this might be available so I can decide whether to wait or find a different approach.

Ideally I want to check odds against the Betfair SP but as that seems impossible to predict accurately I want to test the available odds just before the race starts automatically, without actually watching the race. Using the official start time can leave a gap of two or three minutes before the race starts and the odds can move dramatically so if anybody knows a different approach I would welcome a bit of feedback.

Thanks
Marshy

This post is over year old now , is there any chance of the race status being added especially as this time of year is when things start to get delayed and put back with abandonments.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
