Windows 10 April Upgrade - big problems

Postby KESIMKESIM » Tue May 01, 2018 1:51 pm

Hi Gary/Mark

I've just completed the latest Windows 10 April upgrade and unfortunately my Excel Spreadsheets no longer work.

I've been investigating but just don't know enough to say what might be wrong.

I use an 'old' Windows XP Office version of Excel and bascially the application doesn't work properly at all, even with new spreadsheets that you might try to create. You can create a new spreadsheet but you can't enter more than one number into it with out the application crashing! Similarly, with my BA spreadsheets, they open but immediately (say after 2 secs) the application closes down altogether.

I tried changing the security level under macros to see if that would help but it doesn't. Given that a newly created empty spreadsheet also doesn't work correctly it would appear that this new Widows 10 version doesn't work with an old version of Excel.

I've also tried to re-install the old version of Excel but it still suffers from the same problem.

Can you offer any guidance? In the meantime I'll have a further play about to see if I can sort things out.

I'll try and undo the Windows 10 upgrade later to see if I can get things back

Many Thanks,

Ian

Hi,

Sounds like it is time to upgrade your Microsoft Office rather than trying to make new Windows work with an old version of Office.

The roll back of the Windows Update may work but at some point you're probably going to want to update Windows for security reasons.

Mark

Yeah, I'd already come to that conclusion myself.

I knew Microsoft weren't supporting XP, so I suppose I shouldn't be suprised.

I'd did roll it back and everything worked again but then Windows managed to download the upgrade again without me realising.

Just downloading Office 2016, so hopefully I'll get back up and running.

I hope that if anyone else is running Excel XP then they are suitably warned as to what to expect and be forewarned.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
