Stop Loss Cancels Unmatched Bets

Postby MollyMoo » Mon Nov 26, 2018 4:01 pm

I'm using Excel to submit a Back bet with a chasing stop loss with level loss. When this is matched I then submit a Lay bet at lower odds. If the stop loss is triggered before the Lay bet is matched, the Lay bet doesn't get cancelled. Is this right? I would have thought that the stop loss should cancel any unmatched bets on firing because if the price comes in again and the Lay bet gets matched and the selection wins, the loss is greater than if the Lay bet hadn't been matched.

Hi,

It is correct as there is no connection between the Stop Loss bet and the lay bet that you submitted separately.

If you want a connection then use the Tick Offset and Stop Loss in the same trigger.

The Tick Offset will submit a lay bet as soon as the original back bet is matched.

Then whichever gets matched first cancels the other.

An example trigger would be BACK-TL10-SL10-L-SLC1

That is a 10 Tick Offset with level profit or 10 Tick Stop Loss with level loss and chasing

Regards,
Mark

Thanks for the reply, Mark. That's great for a single Lay bet offset from the original Back bet, but I also have the option to drip feed Lay bets at various odds and percentages of my stake, so that wouldn't work in that scenario.

I think I may have found a solution by keeping a record of the number of bets submitted by Excel and checking whether there has been an extra bet submitted by the Stop Loss modifier. If so, I can get the bot to cancel any other unmatched bets.

I'll be testing it today.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
