How Long SHould I Expect Between Submitting a Bet Request

via Excel and BA Reporting the Bet in 'My Bets'?

Assuming a 0.1 sec refresh rate and Excel with minimal calculations.

This is a bit of a tricky one - I found that you are better off picking up the betref when the bet is placed - it is updated on its own refresh if it comes in before the next price refresh is due.
(I had a problem with placing multiple green-up bets because I was basing my positions on MyBets, and my first green-up bet hadn't made it there yet, so another got placed on the next refresh cycle)

Thanks for the Tip.

But, even if you pick it up from there, what is the expected/typical time delay between sending a new bet, observing 'PENDING' and then receiving the BetRef confirmation of a fill.

At the moment, I think I am very slow, often it takes 3-4 seconds for me. Anyone had a better/worse experience??

It can be very quick - sub 250ms say. Obviously if there is an in-play delay then it takes longer by the amount of the delay.

BA reports how long it has taken in the black status bar, even if the bet is placed from Excel.

hmmm. Any tips on how I can work out why my response time is so slow??

The spreadsheet I have only takes about half a second to recalc, but my response to fills is so slow. I will look on BA for the actual response time to check there as well.

Anyone else getting slow responses? (Im not doing In-Play at the moment).

The bet ref column will change from PENDING to a bet ref in the exact time it takes to place a bet and get a response (ie. the time you see in the black bar in Betting Assistant).

"My Bets" is updated on the next refresh, so it should be available on the next refresh as Excel will not be updated until the previous Excel update has completed. For example if you are using a 0.1 second refresh and place a bet on an in play market that has a 5 second delay then the next Excel update cannot occur for 5 seconds.

If you are getting a slow response time it is down to either Betfair or your ISP. My response times were ok yesterday, but I was with another user and they were getting exceptionally poor response times of around 7 seconds.

Slow Virgin Media

Postby 2020vision » Sat Mar 07, 2009 12:09 pm

Hi All :)

talking of slow times my speed (usually 10mb) has been up and down, even
freezing for up to 20 seconds over the past two days with Virgin Media -
anyone else experienced this (Nottingham)?

Cost me a few quid yesterday so last night I rang them up and the upshot
of it all is my modem is playing up, NOT my equipment or BA for sure. it was
also having very slow periods with normal browsing. They are sending me
out a new one! 8)

Have a nice day - Michael :)

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
