Photo Finish

Postby Spike » Mon May 04, 2009 1:28 pm

Does anyone have a simple way distinguishing between a market that's in normal running, and one which is betting on a photo finish in excel?

I'm left scratching my head about this at the moment, and would really appreciate a good solution.

No so much a method but a couple of observations:
  • There'll probably be only two selections you can back at anything other than 1000.
  • The market will have gone from Inplay + Suspended to just Inplay. You'd have to use VBA to look out for that.

Thanks for your thoughts- I'm currently using a method very like your first suggestion but it sometimes filters out close finishes in normal running, which is not what I want.

I've been thinking about a VBA method like the one you mentioned but I was just wondering if anyone had thought of something simpler.

Have you thought about some VBA code setting a variable to monitor when a market goes inplay then changing it once the market hits suspend to effectively shut down betting on that market.

One thing to be careful of is that the market can sometimes alternate between suspended and not suspended just after going in play. To allow for this don't set your flag until the market has been in play for say 30 seconds.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions, in the end I got frustrated with putting it all together (in-play+suspend+a race timer) and just bodged it by advancing to the next market as soon as the race goes into suspend and it looks like it's finished based on the odds. Not a great solution I know but it'll do for now untill I can find the motivation to set up something more robust.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
