BF starting price

Postby dgs2001 » Tue May 05, 2009 11:04 pm

Hi All

could anyone share any code used for scraping the betfair SP from their results page?.

I currently get Industry SP from the RP site but would also like to get Betfair SP.

Thanks Duncan

I think it's easiest to get it from their csv files, don't have any code though.

As jokerjoe knows, I have strong views about BFSP. Since the odds are adjusted to maximise the matched amount from bets outstanding at the off (and therefore BF's commission), I can't see that it is anything more than a fluke if the BFSP is anywhere near the last available price. I have had a view expressed to me that this adjustment somehow represents the market more accurately, but I don't see how. What do people on here think?

Thanks Guys

Roger
I ask because i have stumbled blindly into a low odds backing system that over the last three months has returned a 50%+ strike rate over some 450 bets and although showing profit at industry sp, I am now wanting to run the numbers through with betfair sp and also the doubles / trebles etc to see if this is indeed a viable system.

If it is then for my two pennith worth BFSP is fine by me :D

I've been casually obvserving the BSP for the last few weeks. I'd say it's fairly close to the price at the off within a few ticks, though I've read about times when they were massively off. The uncertainty and liquidity can't make it massively appealing to arbers.

As for comparison to industry SP, I would imagine that at the top of the market the BSP and ISP aren't too different.

The problem is that, as I've posted before, a large bet or lay at SP seems to skew the market out of all proportion. It is more like a Tote bet rather than an SP bet. When I started to lay a few last year, I ended up laying up to 4 times the last matched before going in-play.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
