Cell Reading Order in Excel

Postby StuT » Wed Dec 09, 2015 4:38 pm

Hi all,

Another question from me if you don't mind.

Using excel triggered betting I see the Trigger column is Q, Odds column is R and Stake is column S

In what order does excel process the cells when executing formulas, does it read from left to right or some other way?

I ask this because if a formula is placed in the Stake column S with a Trigger in column Q which obviously uses the Stake, will the Trigger be fired before the Stake has been re-calculated.

I hope folks understand my question, what is executed first?

This is a question to be answered by Garry/Mark

When ba will read columns q/r/s (and submit bets if needed)?
just before every refresh?
or after excel has finished its calculations/macros (after ba has updated data in the first 16 columns)?

BA doesn't place the bets until after the excel sheet has done it's manual or automatic calculation, so you dont need to worry it's using out of date info and firing bets with old stakes, Stut.

I've always assumed BA does it's bet placement after the market data has been sent to the sheet and the macros/calculation finished but it would be good if Gary could clarify the order as I don't think it's ever been given.

I guess you could set a sheet on a long refresh and place bets with another window on a fst refresh to view when bets are going into the market.

what I know is that the refresh rate is taken from excel before any excel calculations/macros
At least this is my impression about refresh rate

Thank you both for your answers.

Thinking about it, I suspect that the order would be:

1. BA sends data to sheet
2. Sheet executes formulas/macros
3. BA executes Trigger

Like you say CS I would expect all spreadhseet formulas and macros to be executed before BA acts upon it.
So it doesn't necessarily matter what order cells are processed in step 2.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
