Hi Daywalker, really enjoy your blog so please keep it up. Very interesting articles (and replies) especially about speed. I have added a comment to your latest speed article. I really think that when Gruss add streaming prices to BA it will make a big difference. I have heard some good things about the streaming prices from other automated traders. Fingers crossed.

I know another trader who's been using it since last October on other software and rates it highly although it does have it's quirks apparenty, hopefully we'll have the option to switch it on and off via excel if it ever does make it to Gruss.

It definitely is making it into the software.
The price streaming is done and we are confident that part is working well.
The order streaming has been the tricky part to code and is almost ready.
We will release a beta version initially for anyone to try.
There are options in preferences to turn the streaming on/off.
Not sure Gary planned for an option to turn on/off from Excel, I will ask the question.

Regards,
Mark

Thanks, it would be a big help if the streaming and polling could be switched via excel rather than a global setting for the app, especially as many of us botters will only want to stream at certain times.

Excellent news! I am really looking forward to it. Would love to start testing. I don't mind if it is finished or not as I will only be testing and letting you guys know how I get on. Thanks and looking forward to the beta version.

I'm only using ba through excel so a switch in excel is a must for me\
I guess that there are others like me

What are the pros/cons from streaming? - apart from very fast refresh rate / less data/broadband -

Hi Drunkenight,

I'm glad you like the blog and thanks for the comment (I'll put it in my next post), the replies do make it more interesting. I'm also looking forward to the streaming, will be interesting to see how it effects the markets when everyone can use it. I know beta testers have been using it for a while and other vendors have included it as an option. But I trust Gruss will put it out in a more working/functional way than those. As Captain and Alrodopial have said, switching from within excel would be good (I only bot).

If streaming brings faster data then this will aid botters more, as manual traders won't really benefit from the speed difference, I doubt you can physically react any faster than getting 200ms refreshes.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
