Identifying the 2nd Favourite

Postby gordon » Fri Mar 28, 2008 1:41 pm

Hi Folks,

I notice that BA can identify the first, second and third favourites with icons.

Is there a simple formula to have Excel identify the second favourite.

The reason for my request is to be able to automatically choose a 'clear' favourite within 30 seconds of the published start time.

Any help would be appreciated

Or would it be possible to have BA identify the the first, second and third favourites in a column in Excel with titles such as FAV, 2ND, 3RD, for example?

Thanks again,

Gordon

Check out the RANK command in Excel.

You can use it to define 2nd, 3rd, ... nth favourite as necessary.

i think phrenetic has hit it on the nail here, alternatively if your storing the data ("name", "odds") in an array or sql, their maybe a function in your language to sort the array "odds" column by asc or desc order.

This is a formula I've used ...

=IF(A5<>"",RANK(F5,$F$5:$F$34,1),"") in Z5 and copied down 30 rows

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
