I have been using IE6 perfectly happily, but I recently had an upgrade that offered other browsers to try, including IE8. Having installed IE8, and not liking it much, I can't get back to IE6. Darling Microsoft finds a later version on my machine, even after removing IE8, and stops IE6 being installed again, so it looks as if I'm stuck with IE8. Apart from some flickering at times, it's possible to live with, but it has an annoying problem when displaying the Gruss forum.
Every morning, I click on the "View posts since last visit" link, then select posts I want to watch. In IE6, when I returned from a selected post, I was placed at the selected post in the list, ready to select another post. Now in IE8, I am returned to the top of the list, and have to scroll down to where I was before.
I presume this is an IE8 feature, not something you have control over, Gary?
While I'm at it, the next most annoying thing is the way that IE8 starts each new session (not tab - I'm a dinosaur, and don't use them!) about 5 character-widths to the right of the last one, even if I have moved each previous session back to the position of the first session. I have a three-screen set-up, so it makes sense to have each session on the middle screen. In IE6, once I had moved a session, further sessions complied. Does anyone have any advice on this, please? |

It appears to be an IE8 thing. I didn't create the forum. It's a free off the shelf solution.
Have you considered using a different browser like Firefox? If you use the back button in Firefox it does not scroll back to the top. |

Thanks, Gary. Yes I was afraid of that.
I use Firefox for the weather radar on the Met Office site, but it hogs my CPU. Could use it for the forum and then stop it I guess. Cheers. |
