Betfair Security Protocols

Postby MarkRussell » Wed Feb 06, 2019 1:43 pm

Hi,

Betfair informed us of the following:-
Please be aware that from 7th February, the only protocol for securing the communication Betfair servers and web browsers will be TLS 1.2. Older versions (TLS.1.0, TLS.1.1 or SSLv3) will no longer work.

So Betfair's API server will no longer support anything below TLS 1.2 for secure traffic.
This means that Version 1.3.0.37a will no longer work as of 7th February 2019. It will auto update to version 1.3.0.39.

You can install this update Here if the auto update fails.

Please note this also means that you will no longer be able to use the software on Windows XP or Windows Vista.

Regards,
Mark

Hi,

The new version uses the latest .Net Framework which we actually changed to in version 1.3.0.38y12

We are now forcing users to update from 1.3.0.37a as we understand that version will no longer work after Betfair have made the change.

We have been putting off forcing an update as the new version will no longer support Windows Vista or Windows XP

Regards,
Mark

Hi,

I've just tried logging in but I can't because I'm using Vista.

Is there not an older version of gruss that can be used or does that mean Vista users are finished??

I'm shut out too and am on an old computer. I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 10 but for now the main thing for me, I can't access all my many Horse Notes which I really need for today's racing. Any ideas or help?

Can I roll back to an old version just for today and then try to update to Windows 10 overnight?

Hi,

You can download 37a via the following link:-
http://www.gruss-software.co.uk/Betting_Assistant/Betting_Assistant_1_3_0_37a.msi

You will need to bypass the auto update by running it directly from program directory, i.e. Betting Assistant.exe instead of the desktop shortcut.
The Program directory will be C:\Program Files(x86)\Beting Assistant

However, we understand that this program will not work after Betfair have changed their site.

Regards,
Mark

Yes uninstall first.
The Horse Notes are held in a separate file that is not deleted as part of the uninstall so should be retained.

One more thing if I may, how could I transfer the horse notes over to another PC?
I have the horse notes xml document but where would I put it on the other PC so it gets integrated into the betting assistant? TIA

Goes in your Documents folder, might be called My Documents depending on windows version.

Ok, copy the XML file to any folder of your choosing on the new PC and then go into Preferences in the software and into the Files settings and set the File Directory to the same folder as where you put the Notes file.
It should then pick them up.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
