TPD on Custom Columns

Postby Shaker » Tue Jan 24, 2023 7:28 pm

Just come across TPD on Gruss, great to see it.

But what do the "Smoothed Velocity", "Speed Ranking" & "Progress" values represent in the custom columns?

The Course Par figure is very useful, is there a value available to see how close a horse is running to the course par? I mean, like an efficiency value?

Thanks in advance,

Just screen recorded the previous race and (obviously) the speed ranking is the ranking in order of horses according to current speed, 1 being fastest.
Forgot to include Progress as a column to investigate but I'm not getting what Smoothed Velocity is or how it can help.

An idea:
Could the Speed boxes be colour co-ordinated so if the selection goes above the current course par the box turns, say, red?

Main reason for this is I'm trying to think of ways to better visualize a pace which is overly strong. Trying to compare columns during a race is very difficult due to the constant changing of numbers.

"Smoothed velocity" is provided as is though the API feed. I assume it's some kind of moving average. I have asked TPD for an explanation.

"Progress" is how many metres they are from the finish line.

Not currently. I plan to implement something in a future release.

I will see what I can do in a future release.

The explanation from TPD for smoothed velocity is that is basically a very fast moving average of speed and consequently removes the occasional “noise” in the data.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
