Login problem

Postby pugs » Fri May 16, 2008 5:02 pm

Hello Gary Mark

My father just phoned me because he kept getting a login error msg (FAILED_MESSAGE) with his Beta. So i tried from here and got same error msg. I then got him to try and log into the web interface and i did the same here with his username.
After login we were both taken to a Betfair advertisement (i have never seen this before) and he had an option to confirm receipt of his Betfair msg “now” or “later”. He confirmed receipt and then was able to log in with his Beta.

Should Betfair be doing this.

Cheers, Ken.

Yes that's how it's supposed to work - sometimes betfair need you to read something, and prevent you from logging in via any API tool until you have.

BA could maybe do with a more friendly error message for OK_MESSAGE & FAILED_MESSAGE

Cheers Pete.

Can BA choose the error msg to display or was that from the API? Something like (VISIT_WEB_SITE) might be more informative. Or even the same option as on the web site, “acknowledge later”. Or were my dad and i the only people not to have come across this before so doesn’t really matter :D

It did cause him to miss the start of the football. You wouldn’t mind if it was an important msg like “You have a free £50 bet only today” but it was just an advertisement for Betfair casino. They must be desperate :D

The error message is straight from the API, so Gary would have to catch it and then put up his own more helpful error message.
Yes they must be desperate - I've only seen it once before, and that was about receiving a proof of identity mail, which seemed a bit more worthwhile preventing a login.

Yes i suppose there may be the odd occasion, as with your experience or maybe a change in T&C’s.

The silly thing about yesterday was, after the recent Betfait outages i told him not to have Befair as his home page, and if he could not log in with his Beta then open Internet Explorer to ensure his internet was working ok, which it was so he thought Betfair was down again, so my fault. He is 73 though and can’t quite grasp the difference between a program and a web site, so before he used BA, Internet Explorer=Betfair and Firefox=Sporting Life  , god knows if he ever discovers a porn site i will have to download another 200 browsers for him  .

Cheers Pete.

The next release will inform you that you need to login to the Betfair website instead of displaying FAILED_MESSAGE.

Cheers Gary

This was my fault. I have never had a Betfair msg, and therefore misinformed him as to how to check if Betfair is down.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
