I have heard of theses "bots" but, being ignorant please could you explain what they do please?

Do people write their own programmes or do you buy the software "off the shelf" as they say?

Hi RJM :)

basically as I understand it "bots" will place bets automatically for you
so you do not need to be present and input the bets manually.

If you know Excel, (I don't), then you can use the triggered betting facility
built into BA. Also there are quite a few off the shelf programs that you can
either buy or subscribe to - but it is still up to the user to set parameters.

Set them off and away you go....

Of course you must bear in mind that they will do exactly what you set them
to do and will not automatically make profits for you unless of course your
settings for them are precisely set.

My particular point and reason I made this post is because I do all of my
betting manually and many times it is obvious that a "bot" is betting
almost the instant my bets are placed - this particular action makes it
virtually impossible for me to be "at the front" in most greyhound markets.
I am talking mainly with around 15 minutes or less to event start btw.

Quite often you can actually see two or more bots escalating prices with
each other - of course eventually they stop before ridiculous prices are
generated. VERY FRUSTRATING to say the least!

Finally even if I could use Excel or subscribed to a bot the only good it
would do me would to place simple bets due too other bots doing their
own thing. I must admit I am trying to devise a way round this?

Hope you find this basic description of some interest?

All the best - Michael :)

P.S. Perhaps other forum users have a better description?

Thank you for the reply Michael.

I am afraid "spreadsheets" are a total mystery to me.

I presume these "Bots" are trading for their users and "greening-up" automatically?

RJM - Sometimes they will be set to green-up and sometimes be set simply
to place bets at prices that the users are happy to match or take.

Perhaps others will enlighten you more than I am able?

Ttfn - Michael :)

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
