Slow bet matching

Postby doris_day » Wed Apr 14, 2010 7:47 am

Has anyone else noticed how slow the betting matching appears to be in the last week or so ?

I'm talking about in-play horse racing and whereas in the past once a trigger was fired the P/L (Column X) figure appeared almost immediately, in the past week or so it takes a longer (and quite variable) time. Very long in some cases.

I've noticed this on both my systems which use different ISP's, so its nothing to do with them. The refresh seems to be OK but its almost as Betfair have introduced a longer in-play delay, which I don't think they have.

Any ideas or comments would be helpful.

I am finding the API v sticky today and rcently too. Bet placement is quite slow, and my refresh timeouts are both high- about 1000 ms.

Got home to find my bot running a little poorly today, and it relies on having a good refresh rate. Sadly as I was out I can't comment on how the refresh was during those markets already run but could be an indicator. Could just be variance but seeing a few unusual results on my PL today.

Would be interested to hear if anyone else found the API poor or if it is simply my program.

DFK - I use Tagadab aswell, mine is up and running again after about 40-50 minutes downtime. Have been perfect until now, may have to consider changing

I have just been in touch with Tagadab, and apparantly they have been under attack yesterday and today. He said it is unlikely to happen again.

Good to hear its not just me. I had one particularly bad race today where everything froze but I think that was due to a Virgin Media outage.
Sadly, for what I do, I need Betfair to work slightly more efficiently than it is at the moment.

I've noticed it for a while on BA don't think it's the actual bet submission but seems the getMUBets calls is being delayed somewhat.

The same problem occurs with some stuff i run via the free api I keep meaning to put some timer script in see which calls are being delayed, maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

Thanks for that Capn. Useful stuff...As you say, perhaps the info returning from Betfair is being delayed, rather than the ingoing taking time to get matched. However, I have noticed the prices I've been matched at have recently been considerably lower than those of the past. However, much of that is due to the greater volatility seen over the past couple of months.
I'm about to open a new thread about this and see what feedback I get.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
