Actual refresh times

Postby DFK » Fri Feb 25, 2011 1:16 pm

Has anyone else noticed the actual refresh times jump around much more than they used to? I have my refresh set to 400ms, it used to sit at a rock solid 400 ms continuously, now each refresh is different, some going up to, and over 1 second. I am using Tagadab and Virgin 50 meg and both are the same.

Some friends who do live in running have reported the same - they put it down to the Betfair servers being relocated to Ireland.

If you are not already using the latest Beta then please install it. See http://www.gruss-software.co.uk/forum/v ... php?t=5862 for link.

In this version select performance options from the options menu.
Try changing the minimum timeout values to a higher value. Try 500ms initially and see if it improves. If it doesn't then try 1000ms.

If you still have problems then there isn't anything I can do. BA cannot change how long it takes to get a response from the server.

What about an Irish version of Tagadab?, or is this a stupid idea?

Do you know if Betfair are aware of this problem Gary? I have tried your suggestions but I am still getting regular 1500 ms refreshes, I am going to report it to them myself but can't help thinking I am wasting my time!

It's not happening to all users so as far as they are concerned there isn't a problem.

If you are using the latest Beta version you can produce a log file of the resposne times. You can send this to me and I will report it to Betfair if I think it indicates a problem.

Do the following to produce the log.

1. Click where it says "Actual refresh:". A chart will appear. Please don't ask me what the chart is displaying, it's still a work in progress and will be documented when I decide on the final format.

2. Right click on the chart and select "Export to data file". Enter any file name you like and make sure you save it somewhere you can find it.

3. Email the log file to admin@gruss-software.co.uk

Recently i had the same problems
I am using a vps server

What I have noticed is was getting slower refresh times especially when i was at the office. What I can confirm is that at the office with a slow internet connection it is affecting the performance of the vps also.

If you leave open the chart that Gary suggests you will see that some times when you are connected to the vps some major spikes.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
