RUK HD

Postby DFK » Tue Jun 21, 2011 1:53 pm

Having read about the proposed introduction of ruk hd next year I have e-mailed them about whether or not they will have two channels as the hd will be at least another 1-2 seconds behind what we have now. Anyone else enquired about this ?

hi dfk , a reply i received from RUK about 6 weeks ago

We are working towards Racing UK in HD, in stages. We have in place an HD network linking all our courses and new OB trucks to produce HD pictures. The next step will be a totally new HD production facility replacing our existing SD base at Teddington Studios. This is taking longer than expected for a variety of commercial and logistical reasons I will not bore you with. It has pushed our HD ambitions well into 2012. We believe that circa 30% of our satellite and cable subscriber base are “HD ready” but we would need to run two channels until the remaining 70% catch up. We have a working group considering how best to serve the HD and SD subscribers. Our Board is very keen to progress but I am sorry I can’t give you a definite date just now.

Thank you for that jumpsfan. I had a reply from one of the bigwigs at RUK, I expressed my concerns regarding feed delay and he said they are some way off HD, and they will be operating both HD and SD in the medium term. He also said they were doing a lot of work on latency, and we might be pleasantly surprised when they deploy the latest encoding equipment. He also said it was a high priority for them too.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
