how many favs actually win....

Postby easternpromise » Wed Jun 29, 2011 2:17 pm

For horse racing I read somewhere that only 35% of favs win their races.

But where can i find out the % wins by favs that start the race at different odds.

e.g. how many favs win, if there start price is 2.0,3.0,5.0 etc.

Thanks

You can download the betfair data for the last 3 or so years from here:

http://www.betfairpromo.com/betfairsp/prices/

I haven't looked but you will almost certainly find the following:

2.0 50%
3.0 33%
5.0 20%

Maybe you can possibly find a bias to certain tracks / trips / field sizes but you'll be lucky.

Good luck

I believe-overall- its about 37%. And a little extra, approx 65% of all races are won by one of the first five in the betting. But don't quote me on that.

Proform tells me the following

2.0 48.98%
3.0 31.88%
5.0 19.68%

This is for all races from 2008 to date

Hi Kevin, those figures are very interesting. Can I ask how you got those from Proform?

Hi DK,

I used the System Builder, selected all years from 2008 as BFSP came in in 2007 and selected each of the BFSP odds in turn and ran the report.

Interesting. Would it be a lot of work for you to find that out for other odds as well?

I would be interested in 10, 20, 50, 100 and 1000 if it's not too laborious.

50 - 1.89%
100 - 0.56%
1000 - 0.07%

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
