Non runners

Postby jonfranc » Thu Jan 12, 2012 1:19 pm

Many times, horses withdrawn at the start, still appear to be trading in running, eg Glenora Gale last week. Why?.

NR's

I think Betfair has some issues with this at the moment - I had my bets cancelled a few days ago because they'd removed a horse as an NR by mistake when it actually ran.

Guess what - if my bet had remained then I'd of won @ 11's :(

With late withdrawals betfair don't have time to remove the runner/reset the market so it's available for people to bet on.

People will still back the non runners for allsorts of reasons , bot's that are unaware etc and people backing it to create a false market for anyone unaware of the non runner as it can have the effect of increasing prices on other runners by playing with the overrounds. Because there's no deduction for non runners in the 'in running' market if you can trick bots into putting up incorrect prices it can be profitable.

...but surely if a market still has a non-runner in it, the obvious answer is to lay it as its impossible for it to win?! Or have I missed something?

Thanks for your reply to my question btw, about to refer to the docs :)

Cheers,
Jon

Hi,

If it is a non-runner then Betfair will just void the bets when they settle the market.

Mark

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
