Thanks Doris.

I know it seems obvious but I thought I better check.

I've used it on XP and Win7 without problems for ages.

You may need to install Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 if using XP

I've deliberately kept XP SP3 as I wondered if it offered better performance than Windows 7? I still run Excel 2003 on my betting PC rather than Excel 2010 as people claim performance is better on the older (simpler) Excel software.

Wots Win88 like ? I dont like the look of their desktop but am I being ludditeish ? Can you actually drag and drop folders and files anywhere or has that gone completely ? Will I need a new mindset ?

You will not notice the diff in speed or it will be extremely small.
On the other hand I found 2010 much more "suitable".

I wouldn't get to carried away with all the hype over Windows 8. Metro (The new fancy colourful tiled bit) just seems (to me) like a new shell they have put over the top of Windows 7.
Lurking underneath is the same old desktop that you have grown to know and love.

@Doris Day

I didn't like at all - couldn't wait to reinstall WIN 7.

MS are following the route of Apple and others by making mobile, tablet and PC all look identical. The main screen is just like a windows phone with the main tiles to the left of the screen - your, existing programmes then appear on the right. If you have a "touch-screen" then you can open them by tapping the appropriate tile. (It is bad enough keeping a mobile phone "smear free" let alone a large monitor!)

I think you could probably customize the layout but, I really didn't want to spend too much time on the project. (Fine, if you have a spare PC.)

Everything worked fine and I had no compatibility problems whatsoever.

I would imagine WIN8 will appeal more to a "younger market" - maybe, I am I am being an old fuddy-duddy!

Thanks for the feedback about Win7. There seems to be a general move with almost everything to 'simplfy' but by doing that I think you're giving away elements of control, which I like to have. Each to his own I suppose.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
