Betfair closes doors to Greek

Postby alrodopial » Mon Nov 26, 2012 9:18 am

Dear Alexandros,

We regret to inform you that, as from Monday 3rd December 2012, we will no longer offer gaming and betting services to customers located in Greece. This is due to a decision by the Greek Gaming Commission that includes provisions for financial penalties and criminal sanctions against gaming operators that continue to operate in the market. Our products will therefore be unavailable to customers located in Greece. This impacts all products across all platforms. Betfair will continue to work with the Remote Gambling Association (RGA) to lobby for legislation that allows fair competition in the Greek market.

What does this mean for customers located in Greece?

From approximately 11am GMT (1pm local Greek time) on 3 December 2012 customers in Greece will be unable to access any Betfair gaming and betting services. If you normally access the site from Greece and you hold positions on exchange markets then we encourage you to trade out as a matter of urgency prior to 3 December.

Bets on the exchange which have already been placed or fixed odds bets (e.g. Greek football champions 12/13) will be settled in the normal way once the result is known. After 3 December all bet placement functionality will be disabled. You will still have access to your account for purposes other than betting and gaming activity and your deposits are safe. This will allow you to make withdrawals from your account as usual for the time being.

If you have any further questions please refer to: Frequently Asked Questions.

Alternatively our helpdesk will be pleased to assist you. We’d like to ask for your patience when contacting them as they are expecting to receive a high volume of enquiries in the first few days. The best way to contact them is via email to hellas@betfair.com or our hotline: 80 1300 3230

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Best regards

Betfair Service Team

Garry,
the way I read it I see that I will be able to login into my account but not be able to bet from it.
The question :

What will BA do?

1. Will it be sending odds to excel/receiving orders from excel (com, -1 etc)

2. Will it be sending bet placement orders to BF (which will not been accepted?)

3. Will not work at all?

(please answer the 1. )

I imagine you will be able to login to your account from the website so that you can manage your account, but I am pretty certain that the API will block your access. It will return an unauthorised error to Betting Assistant which will result in BA informing you that you subscription has expired. This is exactly what happened with German customers recently.

Not sure what exactly is going on here ?
or why Betfair are being such dicks about it ,
they really do seem to have their head's up their arses,
As if a country is going to change there legislation just to suit them ???.

As for alternatives then Betdaq will be excepting bets from greek customers so just have to use them.

Betfair will lose alot of revenue if they dont get a grip of the situation soon.

Be, very careful because if Betfair suspect anything they will immediately close your account and they will never reinstate it.

This has happened to a few people.

I am in Spain right now.
I cannot access betfair.com without going through a proxy.
I just cannot get to the site there is an automatic redirect to betfair.es.
I cannot even log into this Spainish betfair website.

BA is not working.
I fire it up. Log in and then get a screen about paypal subscription. When I ok this BA shuts down.

What the devil do these bureaucrats think they are doing?

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
