BA "reponse time" when you place a bet

Postby Coolhand22 » Mon Nov 25, 2013 3:23 am

When you place a bet, betting assistant has a an innate response time between you submitting the bet and it actually placing the bet.

I am NOT referring to the any in-play delay imposed by betfair.

My response time for placing a bet with BA is anywhere from 80ms - 200 ms generally.
Seems to have an average of 120-150 ms and a rare maximum of 300-500 ms.

Is it possible to reduce this response time down even further; so that the average is near 0?

I'm guessing the bottleneck has to be memory or cpu power; since we're not talking about connectivity but how quick BA can read and place a bet.

Any feedback appreciated

Will

Oh it actually is the latency of the bet sent by BA to betfair?

Yes the response is basically the latency, even though your ping time to Betfair maybe 50ms you're still at the mercy of how quickly they turn around the actual bet request. It's more likely those 300ms responses are due to Betfair than your connection especially at peak times

Does betfair prioritize some bet order requests over others?

I'm sure crossmatching has first priority but other than that they've always said it's first come first served and considering it's not their money at risk I've no reason to doubt them.

We could never tell. But I think they prioritize high rollers. But definitely a highe latency during peak hours is what I have observed.

Probably a little off topic but the last few days I have noticed in my 2 different vps that BA refresh time is a little slow.

Meaning that in refresh rate 0.2 in the BA grid the Actual Refresh rate is 200-300 ms and in the brackets I get 30-60 when the normal is 15-17.

Can someone tell me of we have differences please?

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
