How to set up automation

Postby magiccarrot » Thu Oct 24, 2024 6:20 pm

I am totally lost with how to use this software for my needs.

I need someone that can explain how to set up the software the way I want it to work like I'm 10 years old.

If anyone is able to help me in private then that would be ideal if I need to detail the system that I want to automate publicallyI will be a bit more reluctant to do that but would do it as a last resort,

I don't even know if Private messaging is possible on here, but I guess I'm about to find out.

I can empathise. I've been getting to grips with Gruss and automation recently with only self-taught excel skills under my belt including some VBA but little coding experience besides. Automation is a tinkerer's game and I think this explains the relative inaccessibility with the software for some users. No pain, no gain in most cases I'd imagine.

While the user guide and forum should provide what you need to get you on your way, the problem for non-techies (like myself) is that detailed user-specific tasks can quickly pile on the complexity (and workload) - not really suitable for a 10-year-old. What it boils down to IMO is that while somebody should be able to point you in the right direction, depending on your needs, obtaining a working solution at square one will most likely involve paid help. Alternatively, keep at it and hopefully it'll pay off.

I've been using BA for over 10 years and find it an amazing piece of kit. Admin are super helpful and have amazing ideas - Thanks Gary & Mark!

Have you had a look at Videos?

I've developed several bits of code that use BA as a server - it certainly helps if you have experience with programming.

Yeah good call, video tutorials are a great way to ease people in. My first look at the software (before reading the manual) was Gruss's own brief demo which I found to be a brilliant introduction to triggered betting, given that I'd never seen Excel integration in action before in a betting app:

I then checked out a couple of Mark's youtube videos, which also really helped - thank you Mark. It's a pity there isn't a more comprehensive series of videos on automation with BA, to save newbies the task of making sense of all the technical nitty gritty, as I think that would attract a lot of new customers. But I guess Gary and Mark are happy with the status quo, which is A-OK. After all, having used other leading apps, I can already agree that pound for pound BA is quite exceptional.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
