API-ERROR Anyone....?

Postby llama » Wed Feb 27, 2013 3:43 pm

The first TWO Horse Races were fine today using an Excel Spreadsheet etc to place my bets at the off etc.....

However, the last TWO races I have received API_ERROR in the Bet Ref field of my bets.

There is no discussion about this on the Betfair Forums, so am I in the minority of ONE here? Or is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Thanks.

I am still getting an API-ERROR every race......

I can submit trades via the standard Betting Assistant Platform, but nit via an Excel Spreadsheet.

Does anyone know what gives rise to such an Error Message......?

See http://gruss-software.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7733
You might have the same problem. I would like to see the diagnostic file.

Hi Gary,

I think it could be the same problem......

I am trying to submit bets of UNDER £2.

Rather interestingly the last race, which was Bangor 16:20 was ok....Co-incidentally, the first horse in the market was odds on and I did not have to submit a bet of under £2.

I will email you the logs.

Hi,

I am also receiving API_ERROR. It is indeed in case when there are small stakes.
But I have observed that this error appears only if bets are triggered at once for all selections in the market. If I trigger the same bets (same small stakes, same odds) one by one, then the error doesn't appar, and bets are placed successfully.

I have been using the same trigger betting from Excel everyday for couple of months (also with small stakes), and this error never appeared before.

I hope it helps.

Greetings from Poland

Think this might be something to do with number of bets rather than bets below the minimum stake.

Since yesterday on the outright golf markets (lots of runners) I keep getting API_ERROR when I'm trying to submit bets on, say, half the field. These are bets well above £2 stake.

It used to be the case that the API would only accept a certain number of bets at once (think it was 40). However this changed in the past couple of years and the number of simultaneous bets seemed unlimited. Maybe betfair have reverted to the old restrictions?

I have the same problem. Since I installed version 66x85 today, I always get the API_ERROR when I try to submit bets via excel. Is there already a solution for that?

I noticed a while ago (could be 10-20 days ago), that when laying the field at the same time, bets under £2 were executed only after bets over £2. In play (horses), it would take one extra second to finish betting than before.

I just tried excel betting on greyhounds, it seems 5 bets or less are ok (all bets less than £2), when trying on 6 selections there is API error.
So definitely some kind of limit exist from yesterday.

dejanuk,

The issue of the bets under £2 taking longer is not a new thing. The GRUSS routine of submitting small bets will always take 3 seconds. It just copies the routine a real User would use in placing a sub minimum bet. e.g. If placing a LAY bet, then placing one @ 1.01 for £2, amending the amount, cancelling original bet and adjusting the odds etc......

Just a small word of warning.....Not sure if it is related, but yesterday a friend, using the same Excel Spreadsheet as mine, instead of getting an API-ERROR had the scary experience of the bets being submitted for £2 instead of the few pennies that was inteneded. e.g. Prices of 200.0 etc.

The only difference was that he had a refresh rate of 5......

llama,

You are right, bets less than £2 always took 3 seconds to complete, however in the past they were originally fired at the same time. What I noticed last few weeks was that less than minimum stake bets where only fired after "regular" bets were finishes. It took 4 seconds rather than 3 seconds to complete betting.

Also, Dai Young said there was problem with betting on golf market with lots of selections, however I just tried 50 bets at the same time (all over £2) and it was accepted OK - no API error.

Does not appear to matter which version you use but I shall be watching with interest

FYI - tried using TWO spreadsheets with same markets (less selections) but that produced
a different error ( BBM_DAEMON_NOT_AVAILABLE ) even though it seemed to work at first?

Ttfn - Michael

P.S. It does indeed seem to be only with below minimum stakes...

Now you mention it dejanuk, just recently I have observed a staggering of my submitted bets when there has been a high volume of bets issued simultaneously......

Definitely something going on with the API. I am currently getting BBM_DAEMON_NOT_AVAILABLE if more than 5 below minimum stake bets are placed at the same time.

If you are using the Beta version (1.1.0.66x84 or above) then there is an option to specify the batch size requested. This could serve as a temporary workaround. When setting up the link to Excel set the "Below minimum stake batch size" to 5 and let me know if this helps.

With batch size 5 I'm getting API_ERROR so the plot thickens. Please bear with me.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
