hi osknows

hope you are well, i haven't spoke to you for about 4 years or more .

many thanks for the reply . assuming 200ms ping , how would this equate to bet placement from asia to betfair , would it be below 300ms ?

also , if i could get a 200ms ping , would this mean that if i am watching the betfair live video through a VPS in asia the added delay might only be around an extra 300ms to what it would be in the uk ?

Hi again,

Remember the idea is to set up a VPS in the UK and merely access it from Asia. The interaction between the Betfair servers and the VPS wont be impacted by you being in Asia. I use Simplycloud/Tagadab and have a ping time of around 20 to 25ms regardless of where i am in the world.

What you are dealing with is the latency of accessing your server remotely from Asia. That will depend solely on your local connection in Asia. As i've mentioned before, the advantage in having a VPS is really for automated trading strategies where you don't need to access the server aside from setting it up each day. I don't use mine for any manual trading.

So in answer to your question re testing the impact of the latency in accessing your server in London from Asia; I'm sorry I simply don't know. But a VPS based in the Uk accessed remotely from Asia is likely to be better than any alternative vis-a-vis Betfair/Server connection speed (i.e. a VPN, or direct internet link from Asia) One thing to bear in mind is latency will likely increase depending on what your trying to view via your remote connection. Video and audio may cause you greater lag. Probably not the answer you wanted to hear sorry.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
