Using Betfair SP Market from Excel

Postby tamrood2000 » Tue May 19, 2009 4:10 pm

Hi Gary & All

Is it possible using Excel to put a bet straight into the SP market

If i read the help right

example
Odds 50
Amount £10
Back-SP

Will try to match in normal market and only at off go to SP market

I ask as the SP market settles on time bet placed. Not sure if this is in SP market or just put in.

Also if you use BACK-SP-IP does this put you in at the settled SP market price Inplay or the odds you asked for.

Many Thanks

You cannot put an SP bet straight in. The best you can do is use the -SP trigger. eg. BACK-SP and request odds that have no chance of being matched. As soon as the market goes in play it will be backed at SP.

BACK-SP-IP is not a valid trigger -SP and -IP are mutually exclusive, it has to be one or the other. BACK-SP will convert to SP if not matched before the off and BACK-IP means don't cancel the bet after the off. ie. they are both actions to be taken after the market turns in play: keep the bet or convert to SP.

On that score is it possible to place a bet at a price, for instance of SP+10% ?
If not directly, can you suggest a way then I can place a bet IP of as near as damnit, the last matched price before the off plus, say, 10% ?

Make sure you are using version 1.1.0.62, if not download it using the link below.

When you set up the link to Excel you have the option to include extra columns, SP is one of them. This column will show the actual SP after the market turns in play so you just need to check the market is in play and use the odds from this column plus 10% or whatever you want.

Just one additional thing, can I round my price to the nearest Betfair tick value ?

You would need to write some VBA code to do this if you want to see it in your spreadsheet, but Betting Assistant will automatically round the odds when placing the bet so you don't have to worry about supplying valid odds.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
