Saturday afternoons

Postby doris_day » Sat Oct 03, 2009 6:34 pm

I've noticed a gradual deterioration in the efficiency of Betfair's bet matching engine over the past few weeks, especially on Saturday afternoons.
This is obviously due to the increased soccer traffic and I think its about time Betfair had one of their upgrades to allow more bets to be matched per second.
If anyone else has found the same please email info@betfair.com to encourage them to upgrade their service.

Every little helps....

Are you on the horses or football doris?

I ask as I have not noticed a problem on the football markets but the delay might be hiding any problems.

Sorry, I should have made this clearer. I was talking about the horse racing in-running markets only.

Yes I agree, saturday and sometimes sundays have been virtually unworkable for racing in-running for a few months now. The more people who let Betfair know the better.

I complained to Betfair a few weeks due to problems I had on a trade outside of BA using a normal browser. In a Saturday Tottenham game had a position and tried to trade out but couldn't get into the site on 2 seperate computers for 5 mins; all other sites could be accessed no problem. Eventually, when I did get access I tried to trade out and the market suspended on the last second of the 3-2-1 countdown. I was fortunate that Tottenham scored in th 94th minute saving my loss.

This was Betfair's rather patronising response.....

Thank you for your e-mail.

We have a telbet facility that is available to our users, you can call 0208 834 806 option 5 and quote your TAN - shown in My Account > My Profile - if ever you have PC issues / site issues.

On Saturdays, obviously bandwidth and site usage are at a peak and traffic can be slightly slower, however it should not affect you in the way you have described. please try the below fix.

We suggest that you try following the instructions below which should resolve most Betfair issue's. You can also try using Mozilla Firefox which may have faster loading times when on Betfair. You can get a free download for Mozilla Firefox by going onto www.Mozilla.com,

Increasing numbers of configurations on customers home PCs and the growing number of possible browser configurations has caused some users to have difficulty accessing the betfair site and using it effectively.

We have therefore created some guidelines to help customers optimise their browser for Betfair.com. We have also created a file that will automatically configure these settings for you with Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 6 and 7 running on Windows XP (SP2) or Windows Server 2003.

To view this information please double click on the attached pdf file and follow the instructions.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further enquiries.

Kind regards

Richard Clarke

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
