Different odds between Betfair webpage and Betting Assistant

Postby chopper » Sat Jan 02, 2010 5:44 pm

I was looking at a darts match today and there were better odds on the betfair webpage than the prices I could see on betting assistant.

I assumed this is because the betfair webpage was showing a trade on one player as an equivalent trade on the other player (eg back player A in £10 at 1.20 was also shown as lay player B in £2 at 6) but BA wasn't showing this.

Is that correct?

Because prices are shown to two decimal places how does Betfair round the odds for the equivalent trade and who ultimately profits from this rounding?

Thanks.

This is what you are seeing http://gruss-software.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3845

I'm afraid it's been like that for quite a while. All our competitor's products show different prices from the website in this instance. The information is not available through the API.

Thanks for the quick response Gary.

So on BA I'm still always seeing the best available prices and stakes, just not in every equivalent form.

Is that right?

That's right. You are seeing the best prices being offered by other users. You are just not seeing the "virtual" prices that Betfair will match you to with their cross matching algorithm.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
