Many Workbooks vs many Worksheets

Postby danjuma » Mon Feb 08, 2010 9:36 am

Which is more efficient performance wise when linked to BA, for example 4 workbooks with 4 sheets each, or 1 workbook with 16 worksheets?

Cheers.

PS. I use excel 2007

If you're using the latest Beta then I recommend using the Excel quick link feature. This will open the 4 workbooks in 4 separate instances of Excel. This is definitely more efficient as Betting Assistant can only update one worksheet per Excel instance at a time. The updates aren't ignored they are just delayed by a fraction of a second.

So the rule is the fewer worksheets in each Excel instance the better.

There isn't yet. There are only a few things you need to know though.
1) The workbooks must already exist and be closed before you use this feature as it will open them for you.
2) Click in the cell in the workbook column and select your workbook.
3) After you have selected the workbook you can then select the worksheet in the drop down list.
4) The other options should be self explanatory as they are the same options available in the normal Excel link popup.
5) Click "Start logging" at the bottom of the popup and it will open the workbooks automatically and establish the link.

What particular aspects of this feature are you struggling with?

Sorry, I think I already had the workbook open so it was opening twice, thanks for the advice.

I've been trying out the quick link feature but it seems that communication between excel and BA only starts if a market is loaded.

What I want to do is open BA, select quick link which will log several tabs and then set up the quick pick lists wth -3.17

-3.17 is entered in the correct cell but the list is not set. If i do the same but open any old random markets before using quick link then it works fine but it isn't really any quicker so I haven't bothered with it.

Am I doing something wrong?

Another question/suggestion is could it open any extra tabs that are needed and haven't been opened yet?

Sorry, it was an oversight. You should be able to use the Q2 triggers if no market previously opened. I have just fixed this and will be releasing an update later.

If you have several worksheets in the quick link list it will open any extra tabs it needs automatically. Is this what you mean?

I've just uploaded version 1.1.0.63w which will now process the Q2 trigger cell when quick link is used and no initial market is selected.

By 'tab' I meant BA page. I only have one worksheet and log several markets at different positions on the sheet.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
