BETFAIR RESPONSES TIMES - NON UK CUSTOMERS - BE CAREFULL

Postby mak » Mon Feb 15, 2010 9:42 am

After a lot of tests it is almost certain that the non-uk customers of betfair will ALWAYS get SLOWEST response times no matter what they try.

I can't explain it as good as i would in my native language so i will give an example.

From my house in Greece with a decent adsl connection the best response time I could achieve was ~400 ms in a non in play market. (When I say response time I mean the time that takes my bet to get in betfair -- you can see it in the bottom of BA interface)

So I thought that probably I would get better response time if i tried from a server located in UK (better connection etr - I am an average user of pc anyway). My response time improved but very little now I was at ~ 250ms which is fine but I knew that it could get better (~30 -- ~100).

So I test it with a UK account (not mine) & yes with the same connection and the UK account the response time was ~30 to ~ 150 !!!

Please be aware because this affects all the non UK users even if they are not betting in running, it goes to traders etr....

I haven't talk with betfair, the Greek department isn't working today, but i don't think i can get anything, not alone at least.

This is UNFAIR anyway.

Hi,

Because international customers go via Betfair's server in Malta I don't think it will improve anytime soon. But you might as well ask them about it as you have nothing to lose.

Regards,
Mark

thanks Gary,
still it is unfair because sometimes international users are 0.5 sec behind than UK.

If I get it right, odds updating isn't been affected by this delay?
It's mainly the bet placing affected?

Yes, that's what they are saying.

mak: You can check this. What is the response time in brackets next to "Actual refresh"? It's 8-15ms on our dedicated server.

For me - also in Greece - is usually 100-120 that gives actual refreshes every 200 ms.
If it goes down to 80 ms the actual refresh goes to 150-200 ms.
The best response from BF - the one that apears at the bottom of BA - is 350ms.

8-15ms? It look like a joke to me

I assure you I am not joking. I am talking about a dedicated server hosted in the UK. This cannot be compared with a home connection from Greece to the UK. The issue mak has raised is that even when using a dedicated server in the UK he cannot get the same response times as a UK account holder when placing bets.

The response time for price refreshes of 8-15ms should be realistic for an international account holder if they are using a dedicated server hosted in the UK. mak should be able to confirm this.

Sorry now I saw your conversation...
The refresh time in brackets is 5-6 ms...

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
