Ladder Preset Stake Boxes

Postby pugs » Thu Apr 29, 2010 11:25 am

Hi All,

On the ladder interface, the preset stake boxes no longer seem to remember new changes I make, so when I switch markets they “default” back to the previous changes/amounts I had made weeks ago. Is there something you need to tick now to remember the new changes? Or is my file corrupt or something.

Thank you.

Not sure what's going wrong. I'm sending you a PM containing a link to a test version which will log any errors that occur when it tries to save the stake. Can you try this version and send me the log file?

That’s strange,

I uninstalled then installed the version you pm’d. When I opened it from my desktop it updated to ver 66r (like it did earlier I believe) but the preset boxes are now working as they used to.

The reason I say strange is because i’ve had this problem over the last few updates, probably a week or so. So I don’t think the problem was that it hadn’t installed properly, that’s why I wondered about my file. But everything seems fine now.

Cheers Gary :D

That is strange. It will have to remain a mystery until now. If it happens again you can send me the log file.

Yes I certainly will.

I take it the new diagnostic thingy is now part of my BA/Gruss files. I can see the "BA_Diagnostic.txt" in “Temp” so presumably any update short of a full reinstall then it will just remain there if I ever need to send you the file? If that’s correct don’t trouble yourself answering.

Thanks again Gary :)

This happens to me sometimes as well. It's pretty annoying.

I am pretty certain before I uninstalled then reinstalled it did remember the new amounts say about 1 out of 20 times. Since I reinstalled it has only forgot the new changes say 1 out of 30 times. There was nothing in the error logs when it did forget the changes and I cannot replicate it.

Tjpoulos, I would try an uninstall and reinstall (like I did) then post if it has improved things, because it may give Gary a clue if it’s the program or the preferences file on our pc’s.

I think you use multiple profiles and I forgot to mention each profile has it's own log file. Did it happen on the default profile or one of your own? If it wasn't on the default profile then next time it happens can you look in "c:\temp\Betting Assistant Logs\Profiles\[your profile name]" for "BA_Diagnostic.txt"

Hi Gary,

Yes I did notice the “profiles”, plus I have profiles in> C:\temp\Betting Assistant Logs\Profiles, that are no longer used or part of my Betting Assistant, so I may have had the diagnostic thingy already loaded, but I’m obviously pleased I uninstalled then reinstalled because it has all but rectified the issue, and I think proved it’s probably just a glitch my end rather than with the Assistant.

I do have some text in Thread_Exception.txt, I’m not sure its relevant to anything really, but I have sent it to you just in case.

Cheers Gary.

Thanks for the log. It wasn't relevant. I'm still trying to find a possible cause for this. Intermittent problems are the hardest to solve.

Intermittent problems are the hardest to solve. Yes I know they can be a nightmare.

I have just spent the last hour noting how often and trying to replicate this ”issue”, and on the forth attempt it failed to remember the change when I switched markets. Since then I have tried approximately 150 times using different combinations of, restarting BA, changing my staking mode before switching markets, not placing a bet before switching markets, switching to the grid before switching markets, changing the stake box focus before switching markets, and changing single/multiple stake boxes before switching markets. And not once in the last 150 times did it fail.

When I reinstalled it had a dramatic effect on the fail rate. If tjpoulos has the same result as me and no one else has this issue or can point to it being a glitch in BA, then it’s almost certainly just a pc glitch my end, and personally I wouldn’t give it another thought unless a few others report it.

Cheers Gary, thanks for your help :)

I've just discovered something. Each ladder has it's own preset stakes. If for example you change the selection in the first ladder to the 10th runner in a horse race and then change the preset stakes for the first ladder. It saves the stakes in the settings file with an index of 10. This means when you open the next race the first ladder will not contain the stakes you set, it would however if you then selected the 10th runner.

This is clearly not the way it should be done and definitely has the potential to confuse.

Could this be what happened in your case? Try doing what I described above and you will see.

I will fix this in the next release.

it would however if you then selected the 10th runner.

Sorry, this isn't true. What it actually means that if you had 10 ladders displayed and opened the next race then the 10th ladder would show the stakes you set. Even more confusing

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
