In-running horse racing since start of world cup

I'd be interested to hear the opinions of those who bet/trade in these markets from the perspective of refresh times, bet matching speed etc

I have my own opinions and it would be good to hear what others think

I only "pre-race" trade but, have found it hard work.

It is better today - Saturday & Sunday were very difficult with, bets taking a time to be actually placed and then the price rapidly going "south" due to the delay.

Well my take on things for what its worth is that whilst the refresh of the data has been maintained at quite a good level, there has been a significant slowing in the bet matching process, whether by design or simply because of the volume of bets. I have a sneaking suspicion that Betfair have deliberately slowed things down at the back-end in order for things not to get out of hand. That's the only reason I can come up with as it appeared that almost a switch had been flicked when the world cup started.

Bets can take quite a time to show up as matched in Excel, whereas before the world cup started they were almost instantaneous. This means that the data you're looking at could be quite different to the data you're going to be matched at, if at all. I suspect those that have their buttons pre-set to 1.10 etc are going to find that they often get matched at 1.10 when it was their intention to be matched at a much higher figure. This is particularly so at meetings when the liquidity is low.

Hi,
Yesterday (22-6-2010) the refresh rate slowed down considerately, starting about a half hour before the first World Cup match. I had a few response times over 5 seconds (I saw 1 over 10 seconds). After the start of the WC match the refresh rate went more or less back to normal. The same happened before the start of the WC evening matches.
I will see if the same happens today.
I also had more unmatched bets than normally is the case.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
