When do triggers in Excel get actioned in BA?

Postby Frinck » Fri Apr 25, 2008 10:25 pm

Apologies if the answer to this lies in the Forum somewhere - my searching so far hasn't thrown up an answer, hence the post.

My Excel sheet is set on an auto-refresh every 2 minutes. What I'd like to do is fire a back trade on horse A, followed immediately by a lay trade on the same horse. Note that I'm not tick trading here despite how it looks.

Anyway, since my refresh rate is quite slow, I wondered how Excel would react if I created some VBA to fire off these two consecutive trades.

Would the first back trade get fired off to BA (and Betfair) straight away regardless of my Excel/BA refresh rate? Or will the bet not go until the next refresh in two mins time?

If the former, then I'm guessing I'd need to use the CLEAR trigger if a bet ref exists, before placing the subsequent lay trade. Is that right?

I think it's only on refreshes - you can test it manually - set the refresh rate to 20 seconds, set a trigger, and see when it gets taken

If you need those timings, then you could update the refresh rate to say 1 second at the same time as placing the first bet, and then set it back to 2 minutes at the same time as placing the second bet

Pretty sure it is only on refreshes and, I think I'm right in saying, that you won't know the result of the trigger(ie how much has been matched) until the next refresh.

Could you have the same market in two pages/spreadsheets - one for the backs and one for the lays ?

Hi

I have in the past had the same market in two spreadsheets.
This is achieved by having two tabs open in BA both showing the same market, logging to two different spreadsheets.

Hope that helps

Thanks for your replies chaps.

I've had a chance to play with this now and I can confirm the bet is placed on the next refresh. So that would explain my problem of having the 2nd bet overwriting the first bet.

Running two tabs for the same meeting is one way around my problem, but for me this isn't the best solution because I already run 13 sheets each day.

Instead, I'll just amend my vba code to ensure that only one trade is made per nag per refresh. Once the first trade is triggered, on the next refresh I could manually perform a CLEAR trigger before placing the 2nd bet. My tests show that this trigger clears the Bet Ref and Bet Time, and sets the Average Matched and Matched Stake columns to 0 so it won't be difficult to implement.

Cheers,
Frinck.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
