Can Betfair tell if a bet is from Beting Assistant?

Postby finisterre » Mon Jun 16, 2008 12:53 am

I'm investigating a spurious bet that was made on my account. I have reported it to Betfair and they have closed my account while the verification team look into it.

Can Betfair tell if the bet was made from the web or via Betting Assistant?

I'm sure they can get the IP address of a bet, but do BA bets show as from my IP or a Gruss IP?

I'm not suggesting BA was repsonsible for the random bet, but this info may narrow the field a bit.

The bet was on a sport I don't even follow, and I don't see how I could have done it via the web or via BA, as it's not easy to open a market you're not even interested in, and place a bet accidentally.

Cheers.

spurious bets

You are not alone.

Yesterday, three bets appeared in my ba in a race which I had not loaded into the quick-pick list.

These were identical lays, each for gbp2, two of which, placed at the same instant and the third, one second later. Strikes me, this is not done manually.

In the worst scenario, this could have cost one's account gbp50!

We ought to share notes on this.

Send an email to bdp@betfair.com who are responsible for the API. They should be able to tell you.

Turns out Betfair had wrongly allocated somebody else's telephone bet to my account.

Phew!

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
