Update Trigger

Postby Smokin Joe » Sun Jun 15, 2008 12:40 pm

What exactly is the "UPDATE" trigger?

If you have a partially matched bet does it move the rest of your unmatched stake down to a tick (or 2) so that it gets matched?

Not automatically. ie. you need to put in the odds you want to update to.

Thanks for that. What about the stake?

As I will also have an amount in the stake column will that hamper it, or does it just look at the odds, ie regardless of the new stake amount it will just move the odds of the original unmatched stake. Is that correct?

Just did a test, and I see that it doesn't look at your new bet size, it just moves your unmatched bet.

Yes, I only implemented the UPDATE trigger to update the odds. The problem with updating the stake is that it creates an additional bet when you increase the stake which will cause confusion when you only have one of the refs in the ref column which is why I did not implement it.

You will need to cancel the bet and place it again with the new stake.

Gary, I have no problems with the way the UPDATE trigger works, just wanted to be clear in my own mind.

Anyway, between me finding out about the UPDATE trigger and Betfair's Best price Execution I think I am on the way to sorting out a problem I had with cancelling and placing new bets on under / over 2.5 goal markets.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
