EXCEL CRASH

Postby yursaduian » Tue Sep 30, 2008 6:20 pm

Gary

I'm using a spreadsheet with your code for obtaining Sporting Life live odds and also your code for obtaining the saddlecloth numbers using the com inter-do-dah. I'm using excel 2003 and Vista

It's great and does exactly what I want but quite often - probably half a dozen times in an afternoon - my excel either stops and restarts itself or it just freezes and I have to stop it using the task manager and restart everything.

Is this something you've experienced and do you know if there is anything I can do to stop it?

Thanks
Ian

Gary

I posted this a while ago then saw you were away but I'd appreciate your input please.

Whilst my excel doesn't seem to stop as much at the moment, the program just gets more "clogged up" as the day wears on. By 4.00pm it feels like I'm swimming in treacle with everything slowing up, sticking and generally feeling lumpy.

Is this common using the COM interface or could it be something else?
Have you any tips to combat it please?

Does your spreadsheet use both the COM interface to get the saddlecloth numbers and the sporting life code at the same time? There isn't a problem with the COM interface that causes a slowdown that I am aware of. Does your spreadsheet use any other code that you don't want me to see or could you send me the spreadsheet as it is so that I can test it?

The only other "code" in the spreadsheet is a series of "LOOKUP" functions to sort the live odds and horses in to odds order.

I'll send it through if you dont mind having a look.

How do I get it to you?

Sorry Gary - in answer to your question, yes I use your code to get both live odds and saddlecloth numbers through at the same time

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
