Another newbie question

Postby IrishMick » Sat Feb 06, 2010 7:04 pm

Is it possible for the software to monitor racing markets throughout the day and lay at a reasonably low price on selected horses? What I mean is for it to monitor the markets and if a horse is steaming to watch it and when it starts to drift to lay it, and if it hasnt moved then lay within my price range say 1 min before the off??

Thanks

Hi Mick

If you're willing and able to use the Excel side of Betting Assistant, there is little that can't be done. I think its safe to say that any actions or decision processes you would do manually whilst watching the markets on Betfair (and plenty besides) can, in principle, be replicated and automated in a BA-linked spreadsheet.

I would encourage anyone serious about betting to investigate automating their strategies and the Excel interface via BA is very powerful and flexible, but unless you're fairly comfortable with Excel, the learning curve might be quite steep.

Thanks for the reply Silver.

Im afraid I know nothing about excel. Id need to pay somebody to write it up for me. All I need to know is if it could be done so I can go ahead with my plan. Cheers

I'd back up what Silver has to say.

I'd also add that you need to define more clearly the terms 'steaming' and 'drift'. Many people have ideas for systems but aren't capable of converting them into working algorithms just because of this problem of definition of terms. 'Steaming' is an easy term to say but its altogether a different matter to quantify in a catch-all mathematical equation.

As Silver has said, there is probably no system that you can't automate but you need to be able to properly define the terms of the algorithm.

I'd encourage you to try to define exactly what you mean by all the terms and write down each single step of the algorithm on some paper in longhand. Only after you understand yourself what you want the algo to do will you be able to translate that into the correct maths functions.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
