ww2.betfair.com is for the website only. Betting Assistant uses the API and this is api.betfair.com. There is no alternative address for this.

BA is working fine, but the Betfair website isn't for me, another Virgin customer. Houchy's tip to use www2.betfair.com solves the problem, not that it was a big deal anyway; I was just puzzling as to why liquidity seemed fairly normal if the site was down. As usual, I found out what was going on from the Gruss website rather than Betfair.

Speaking to anyone at Virgin's Indian call centre is a waste of time IMO because the line is usually bad (hardly good for a phone company) and many of the staff have poor English and little training. The only way to speak to anyone knowledgeable is to choose the options for thinking of closing the account!

Just checked Virgin media broadband service for South East (Brighton) and the following status message is displayed

"You will currently be experiencing a loss of broadband internet service. Our engineers are aware of this issue and are currently working to fix it fast. We apologise for any inconvenience this may be causing.
Date Issue raised:November 19 2010, 14:34
Estimated repair time:November 19 2010, 18:33
Fault reference:F001440229"

According to this everything should be back to normal on VM at 18.33

Hi All

if it's of any interest I am also a Virgin Media customer and at no point
whatsoever have I had any issues with BA and Betfair - nor the Betfair
website either? I am in Nottingham btw?

I hope it stays that way for you. I was quite happy with the service, but recently they've been about as reliable as Virgin Trains. :x

One small problem with the www2.betfair.com site is I can't login. (I recall that the site is genuine, or I wouldn't have tried.)

I rang Virgin myself and spoke to the UK guys who are on the ball. It's a server problem and they're working on it. Might take a day or two to fix, but luckily Gruss seems unaffected, touchwood!

Did manage to log in eventually, though some of the certificates are out of date.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
