order of horses in grid and spreadsheet

Postby keesbart » Wed Dec 01, 2010 5:05 pm

Hi, Gary,
In the grid I have the horses sorted according to saddlecloth (win-market and place-market).
After I connected the markets to the spreadsheet I noticed that the order in the spreadsheet is not according to the order in the grid. The order in the place-market is not the order of the saddlecloth.
I use the winmarket and the placemarket for placing a bet.
Gary do you have a solution for this? I have screenshots.

The order in Excel does not change by design. I suggest using the Excel vlookup function on the horse's name to match the two markets.

Gary, thanks for the reply.
I brought the problem to Betfair and they suggested to sort the horses according the sattlenumber.
I will now have to accept that there is no solution for this problem.
I only use a few Excel functions, nearly all the processing is done through VB.
By way of a For Next Loop the programm processes the data of the horses in the 2 sheets (Win and Place). Therefor it is a must that the horses are on the same rownumber.
I have already built in a check if the horses are in the same order. If the order is wrong there will be no bets placed and the program moves to the next market.

It really isn't a problem. vlookup is a simple solution.

For example.
1. Log win market to Sheet1 and place market to Sheet2.
2. Insert following formula into cell Y5 and copy formula down to Y50
Code: Select all
=VLOOKUP(A5,Sheet2!$A$5:$P$50,6,FALSE)

You now have the best back odds for the place market in column Y on Sheet1.

Gary, Thanks for the reply.
I will put the formula in the spreadsheet as you suggested.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
