A formula in cells in column Q will do the job.
=IF(F5<=1.4,"BACK","")

Search the forum and take a look at the sample sheets from Gruss

Good fomula, but I think you meant:-
=IF(F5<=1.04,"BACK","")

Otherwise the system will place the bet when the price gets to 1.4 instead of 1.04.

Do you really want to back a team when the price simply gets to 1.04 ?

Think about this strategy very carefully before you implement it.

For instance, what about those times when there is poor liquidity and the price suddenly falls momentarily to the floor and then immediately bounces back up ? This can happen more often than you'd imagine.

There are many people who think there must be a price that when reached will gaurantee a win and although most of the time you will win betting at such a low price, it won't be a winning strategy long term.

Altho i agree with Doris about the strategy a formula of

=IF(AND(F5<=1.04,H5<=1.05),"BACK","")

should take out the poor liquidity spikes as the lay price would have to be at most 1.05. This could be changed if a bigger spread was acceptable.

Thank you all. i appreciate your words of wisdom.
i belive you are right about the liquidty issue,
but in the market i'm betting i think the odds for that to happen are rare...

Instead of the back price I would use the lay price instead (1 tick bigger).

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
