Daylight Saving Problem?

Postby Philby » Sat Apr 02, 2011 1:49 am

Hi There

My first post. I'm using the beta version, but I get the same problem with the current release version. I was going to attach a screen shot of the problem but I don't have access to a public server. Anyway the times for all races today after 3pm (local) are 2 to 3 hours later than they should be, eg. Rosehill:
14:25 R5 2400 Grp1 (Correct)
14:25 R5 To Be Placed (Correct)
17:05 To Be Placed (Wrong, should be 16:05)
19:05 R7 1200 Grp1 (Wrong, should be 16:05)
21:10 R6 1500 Grp1 (Wrong, should be 15:10)
21:10 To Be Placed (Wrong, should be 15:10)

Looks like we are adding when we should be subtracting somewhere.

I thought this might be a Daylight Savings problem since in Sydney/Melbourne our clocks will be set back 1 hour tomorrow morning at 2am. However, the times for the Ascot races are also out of wack. Ascot is in Perth which does not have Daylight Savings.

I am located in Melbourne, so I guess it could still be Daylight Savings which is the problem.

I first noticed these wacky times when I looked at the markets for Rosehill on Thursday. I thought that it was a problem with Betfair so I didn't worry about it at the time thinking that the times would be fixed by race day. But today I checked the markets through Betfair's website and they look OK there, so I'm thinking it is probably a problem with BA. Particularly interesting is Rosehill R7, Win Market at 19:05 and Place Market at 17:05, wierd eh?

I know that you probably can't fix the problem in time for the races today, I just thought you would like to know about it.

BTW, I'm using Windows 7 SP1. I wouldnt dismiss the possibility that there is a problem with M$'s timekeeping-it's been known to happen.

Regards

If these are Australian races then I'm afraid it's a problem at Betfair's end. The same problem occured last time daylight saving was applied. Looks like they still haven't fixed it. It should only occur on one day though so I should not need to apply a fix for future races.

Thanks for the update Gary, I thought it would be a problem at Betfair's side. Good to see this forum is well ahead of the game.

I have asked BetFair about the issue. Hopefully they will come back with some explanation so we can be sure into the future that this does not keep occurring. It is certainly totally stuffing Trigger Betting - the last race for NSW was showing as tomorrow

Thanks for the reply Gary, et al

Yeah, by the end of the day I had figured it was probably Betfair because the times were even more screwed up than I stated in my post and I couldn't see how Betting Assistant would be that wrong.

Interesting that the Place Market liquidity was down today, so I guess lots of people are using some form of trigger betting in these markets.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
