Lay shortly before the off, then tick offset in-running

Postby montague » Tue May 24, 2011 7:40 am

I'm new to BA but very, very impressed.

I have an existing betting model that I have to run manually, but I want to automate it through BA if possible. Basically, I identify races where I want to place a lay bet a minute or two before the off at the prevailing price (let's assume it's a favourite trading at 2.0). I don't want to enter the market earlier in the day because of market fluctuations, non-runners, etc. As soon as my lay is traded just before the off, I want to back the same horse and keep the bet in-running for a level profit across all runners (via the great 'tick offset' and 'auto level' feature in BA). Let's assume I choose a tick offset back price of 2.5. I am working on the belief that the favourite will drift to at least 2.5 during the running of the race.

Can anyone advise me how I could automate this through BA? I presume I'll need to do it via Excel scripting but don't have the necessary knowledge. I understand that the BA software will need to be running all day until the race takes place (while I'm at work). The key thing is knowing how to set up a lay that doesn't take place until a minute or two before the scheduled 'off' time of the race.

I hope some of you BA experts can point me in the right direction. I will typically be placing two or three lay bets a day using this model.

Cheers,

Montague

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
