Excel/BA Learning

Postby BlueBoy » Fri Mar 31, 2006 9:31 am

This is Probably for Gary

I am keen to improve my knowledge of the Excel/Ba interface. I am not aware of any guide being available so I am learning by reading posts on here.

I suspect there is a mine of info/tips on the archived thread form the betfair forum but I am unable to search it and it is impractical to scroll through more then the 130 pages it contains.

Is there any convenient way of acheiving my objective?

Many Thanks

Depends what you want to do ?

If you knew what you wanted to do you could do a search on the forum to see if someone has done it before......if not post up a new topic in the relevant thread of the forum.

There are lots of helpful people here.

Otherwise - there are a couple of good videos you could watch which are at the top of the help thread. http://gruss-software.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=254

Then there is a another powerpoint tutorial on here somewhere.....

It all depends on your level of understanding and where you want to take it and what specifically you want to do.......................

good luck.

Thanks for your response

I have searched existing posts and these are helpful but I cannot search the archive.. Also watched the video

I have been using the excel link with small stakes but get some worrying results that I cannot explain. For instance sometimes I try to BACK or LAY from excel and the word PENDING appears in the refernce column and stays there.

I have aslo found a message on the BA screen last action line to the effect that the server could not action my request.

I am using VBA routines in my spreadsheets.

I believe that PENDING is when BA has sent the bet request...and waiting for a responce from betfair.

Sure someone can tell you why it would stick at pending.

Does this happen if you swap from www to www2 servers ?

is this in-play ?

what refresh rate are you using ?

what are you trying to do (if you don't want to say then just give the scantest of detail so we can possibly help) ?

lots of questions - sorry no answers....!

TKP

Not In Play

www server
refresh rate 10.0 - does the refresh rate have any effect except slowing things down?

I have written a vba routine which creates a LAY bet Once a BACK bet has been accepted then a Lay once the BAck has been accepted.
It works most of the time but I sometimes get the PENDING!!!

If you use a 10 second refresh - it will show PENDING for 10 seconds until the next refresh.

yep - Ians right on the money there.

You need to set the refresh to 0.5 for it to work....otherwise the pending will sit there until the next refresh.

When you say accepted - do you mean matched or been given a reference number ?

I had this "PENDING" problem some time ago but I can't remember exactly what caused it. It wasn't related to the refresh rate. I recall having a problem with the stake - if your routine calculates the stake and it has more than two decimal places the bet won't go through. I can't remember if this produced "PENDING" or "ERROR" though. Defining the stake variable as currency avoids it.

By Accepted I mean given a reference number is given

PENDING stay permanent for hours - not just the 1o sec refresh

NANOOK
I will try your suggestion re rounding

Thanks for the help guys

I just tried an invalid stake format but it gives an error message now "please check the stake size".

I believe the bet will stay "PENDING" if the market is suspended.

Sports betting software from Gruss Software

The strength of Gruss Software is that it’s been designed by one of you, a frustrated sports punter, and then developed by listening to dozens of like-minded enthusiasts.

Gruss is owned and run by brothers Gary and Mark Russell. Gary discovered Betfair in 2004 and soon realised that using bespoke software to place bets was much more efficient than merely placing them through the website.

Gary built his own software and then enhanced its features after trialling it through other Betfair users and reacting to their improvement ideas, something that still happens today.

He started making a small monthly charge so he could work on it full-time and then recruited Mark to help develop the products and Gruss Software was born.

We think it’s the best of its kind and so do a lot of our customers. But you can never stand still in this game and we’ll continue to improve the software if any more great ideas emerge.
